Mixed media box

It's 1st of April and we have a new challenge at the Country View Challenges. The theme is Pimp it up! and the lovely Evelyn is the hostess this month.

For this challenge, I chose a box which was green, white, gold and I still couldn't decide what to do with it. So it was a perfect subject to alter.

I always admired the works of the mixed media artists, mainly Finnabair's style but I never had the courage to make something similar. But as you can see I took a deep breath and decided to give it a go!

So here is my every colour wooden box:

First I took off the self-adhesive laces. Then I painted black with DecoArt Americana Decor Chalky Finish paint.

Then I put back the laces and I put on the top too.

I glued cheesecloth on the top. For this, I used decoupage glue. When it was dry I painted black and I did some stencilling in the corners.

Then I cut out some elements with my Big Shot from chipboard and I also chose some metallic elements (wing, screw, key etc.) from my stash.

I used the following dies from Sizzix-Tim Holtz:

Sizzix Bigz Die, Trellis

Sizzix Bigz Die, Caged Bird

Sizzix Bigz Die, Gadget Gears

I painted black the die-cuts.

I arranged the elements and then fixed them one after another.

Now, it was time to add metallic paints in different colours (pink, purple, green, turquoise).

I spattered with black ink.

I hope you like my box and if you have an altered project, please join our April challenge where you can win a £20 voucher!

With my box, I would like to join the:

- Simon Says Stamp Monday challenge: Inside the box

- A Vintage Journey: Treasure

  1. Fabulous finish Monika! I recently did a Finnabair inspired canvas but I find it so difficult to put anywhere enough stuff to get the same effect as she does... Happy Easter!xx
