Vintage Hungarian Christmas cards #143

So this is the day when the Hungarian children find small gifts and treats in their shiny boots if they were good. If they were naughty then they get birch rods from the Krampus.

This card is very special to me. For years I had been watching and longing for this card, but I didn't buy it because it was so expensive. I have never spent that much money on my vintage postcards. Then it just disappeared from eBay and I was so envious of the person who bought it. And guess what, it was my husband. He bought me this as a Christmas present.

Unfortunately, this card was not posted.

The only thing I know about it, that the publisher of the card was BR, so probably Bloc Frères, Bordeaux - I'm not sure about it.

So as you see, the little girl isn't afraid of Krampus at all and she doesn't need to be, because that's just a toy in her room.

Vintage Hungarian Christmas cards #142

Today and tomorrow I will show you two cards with Krampus. In Hungary, Saint Nicholas visits on the evening of the 5th and on the morning of the 6th, children find little presents (mostly sweets) in their boots. Saint Nicholas is accompanied by Krampus, who gives birch rods for the naughty children.

The Krampus figure is embossed.

This card was posted in 1921.

Vintage Hungarian Christmas cards #110

It's not really a Christmas card, more like a Saint Nicholas card. The Krampus is Saint Nicholas's companion and the one who punishes the naughty children in Central and Eastern European countries.

The text says: Greetings from Krampus! But the Krampus here is just a toy, he jumps out from a Jack-in-the-box toy.

This card was posted in 1922 and was sent to Leiden (Netherlands).

Vintage Hungarian Christmas cards #14

I'm so sorry but I have to confess, when the Christmas is approaching I don't have time to come everyday with another vintage postcard. But today I am here with Santa and Krampus.

Krampus is the companion of Saint Nicolas in Hungary and in other cultures in the neighbourhood and he comes to the naughty kids :-)

Although this card was printed in Vienna but it was posted in Budapest and was sent to the "boss" of the university journal :-) Anyway, the card was posted in 1899 when Hungary was part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire!

And it has undivided back!

Do you like it?

You can find my other cards under the label: 'old Christmas cards'.

Krampus ornament from salt dough

Do you know the krampus? In Hungary he is the escort of Saint Nicholas who punishes the naughty children. But I was never afraid of him, probably because I was a good girl and because nobody wanted to frighten me with the krampus. This is why I liked him as much as Saint Nicholas. Really, for me he is just a funny-happy-jolly creature.

I have been longing to make a krampus from salt dough a long time ago, so I had bought a 6.5 cm krampus cookie cutter and later a 9 cm cookie cutter because the smaller hadn't worked well. The bigger was better but even with this I  decided to cut off the harpoon because it was unstable.

He is so cute, isn't he?
