Vintage Hungarian Christmas cards #147

This gorgeous lady is sitting on a very old Christmas card, because this card was posted in 1904.

This card has an undivided back this is why the sender wrote the text on the front side. The undivided back means there is no place for text just for address. Until about 1905 the postcards were printed with undivided back.

Vintage Hungarian Christmas cards #123

Well, this is an absolutely exquisite vintage postcard. Just look at the details. You can see a lot of gilding on this postcard, on the Christmas trees and baskets for example. Or just look Santa's pink bag, it's actually an embossed silk fabric.

Here in this picture you can see clearly the gilding.

This postcard was posted in 1900 and it has an undivided back.

Vintage Hungarian Christmas cards #120

It's seven days into December and I haven't started my Vintage Christmas cards series yet. I'm really sorry that I haven't shared these wonders with you. And it's also a shame because this is when I catalogue my postcards and this is when they go into their final place in the album.

So here is the first one with Santa on a sleigh pulled by two deers.

This card has an undivided back which means the back side is just for the address and the sender had to write on the front side. Such cards were produced from about 1898 to 1907, so this is one of the lasts from that type because it was posted in 1907.

Vintage Hungarian Christmas cards #88

Again a really vintage postcard from 1900.

It has an undivided back which means only the address has place on the back. This is why you can see writings on the front.

Vintage Hungarian Christmas cards #85

Every year in December I share with you the pieces of my vintage Christmas postcard collection. This is an old hobby of mine, so I have a huge collection. Since I am Hungarian, I'm only interested in the Hungarian Christmas postcards. But I hope you will still enjoy them.

Let's start this year with a gnome card.

I love these jolly gnomes around the fire. If you look at them you will be in good spirit too. The card has an undivided back, it means the sender has no space to write his wishes this is why you can see writing on the front. The backside was for the address only. So this is an early postcard and I assume my card was posted in 1900 or 1901 - although the date of the postmark is not visible but the edition of the stamp helped me to find out the date.

Vintage Hungarian Christmas cards #72

As you know each day in December, I share with you one vintage Christmas postcard from my collection. Since it's December 1, I start showing the vintage Hungarian postcards.

My first one this year a beautiful card from 1903. It means that it has an undivided back, this is why the sender had to write on the front side.

The theme of this postcard is not really Christmassy, it's more romantic with the roses, the little cupid and the lovely couple. But the text says Merry Christmas - Kellemes karácsonyi ünnepeket!

Vintage Hungarian Christmas cards #61

This beautiful vintage card with a child and Santa on sled was posted in 1901.

This is an early postcard which has undivided back, so on the back they could write only the address.

Thank you for visiting my blog!!!

Vintage Hungarian Christmas cards #53

This card is from the era of the postcards with undivided back. And since there was no place for the text on the back, the senders often wrote on the front side. This one was posted 1904.

The theme of the early cards was quite often the angels.

Vintage Hungarian Christmas cards #48

This is a very old card from 1900 so the card has undivided back. It means there is no space for writing just for the address on the back, this is why the sender wrote on the front.

The text - Boldog karácsonyt! - is embossed with gold and there is also white glitters on the tree.

Vintage Hungarian Christmas cards #29

This card is beautiful, I just love these angels!

And besides, this postcard is one of the oldest of my collection. It was posted in 1899! This is why I have to show you the background because it has undivided back. So the sender wrote some kind words on the front.

But actually this is not really a Christmas card. It was sent in November and there's no any sign for Christmas. But who cares? For me these angels are Christmas angels :-)

Vintage Hungarian Christmas cards #22

This card is a very special one  - okay, for me all is special :-). But this one is from 1904! From those days when the postcards have undivided back, which means there was no space for the writing, only for the address. This is why the senders had  often written their wishes and kind words on the front, like here.

And the other reason why this is still peculiar that it is not just embossed but the girl's skirt has a real silky touch.

Vintage Hungarian Christmas cards #20

I would like to wish you a happy and merry Christmas with this antique angelic postcard.

This card is from 1901!

This is why it has an undivided back, so there is no space to write text on the back.

Vintage Hungarian Christmas cards #14

I'm so sorry but I have to confess, when the Christmas is approaching I don't have time to come everyday with another vintage postcard. But today I am here with Santa and Krampus.

Krampus is the companion of Saint Nicolas in Hungary and in other cultures in the neighbourhood and he comes to the naughty kids :-)

Although this card was printed in Vienna but it was posted in Budapest and was sent to the "boss" of the university journal :-) Anyway, the card was posted in 1899 when Hungary was part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire!

And it has undivided back!

Do you like it?
