Just a quick blogpost... I was asked to make some candy shaped Christmas ornaments and I was given the favourite colours: red, yellow, turquoise. So, I made these:

Owl salt dough ornament

Here is my colourful salt dough owl which I think similar in style to the owl felt decorations and to the owl decoupage box. 

I have bought this cookie cutter to the Halloween salt dough making but somehow I couldn't paint it black or brown.

Be careful with this kind of cookie cutter because it's very hard to work with. The pieces can easily break apart. 

I used different colours to every part. But the back is simply solid turquoise.

I filled the lines between the parts with glitter liners.

Here are my latest salt dough ornaments for Christmas.

For this I used candy cookie cutter. (I've already written about the dough in this blog so this time I will pass.)

After the dough dried completely I painted with acrylic paint and I put tiny dots on both sides. In the end I put a thin coat of varnish. 

Halloween salt dough - haunted house

This year I have purchased a haunted house cookie cutter for the salt dough decoration making workshop. And I would like to show you what I have done.

How to make it - step by step:

1. Mix the salt and the flour (about one cup from this and one cup from that) with some water (as necessary).

2. Knead the dough and roll it out. Then use the cookie cutter.

3. Dry the shapes in the oven between 50 and 100 celsius and leave the door ajar because of the steam.

4. When it dried paint it with black acrylic paint.

5. When the paint dried paint door and windows with orange paint.

6. With glitter liner (mine was Marabu) frame the door and the windows.

7. When all dried put some varnish on the surface.

Miniature salt-dough pumpkins for Halloween

We made some Halloween salt dough decorations again this year. Most this year ornaments were similar to last year ones. But of course there were some novelties too. These mini pumpkins were among the new pieces. 

From salt dough I shaped some balls and after I pressed them a little bit pumpkin-like. With a wooden stick I drew hard  lines on the surface lengthwise. With this stick I made a little hole in the middle and I insert a quite thick string in it - this became the stem of the pumpkin.

When it dried I painted with acrylic paint. I put some greenish-brownish colour to the lines and to the middle.

Just to see the sizes, how little my pumpkins, I placed them next to my miniature paper house and I took a photo for you.

I have already made salt dough ornaments for Christmas and Halloween, but for Easter I haven't made any. For now I  have finished these few pieces but there will be more later.

First of all, let me show you the bunnies. The design is the same as last year.

I have also made fridge magnet.

My salt dough recipe in this case was: 1 cup flour with 2/3 cup of salt and some water.

I used cookie cutters.

But look out! Don't flatten the dough too thin otherwise your dough will curl when it dries. 

Anyway, either you dry the ornaments on radiator, or in the oven, you have to turn them many times to avoid the curling.

Fridge magnet from salt dough

Recently I made some Christmas tree decoration from salt dough and I forgot to make a hole for one of them. But I had a magnet which had fallen off from an awful plastic smiley. So I used this magnet to fix it to the bird.
