Vintage Hungarian Christmas cards #20

I would like to wish you a happy and merry Christmas with this antique angelic postcard.

This card is from 1901!

This is why it has an undivided back, so there is no space to write text on the back.

Vintage Hungarian Christmas cards #18

I have already brought here cards where Santa arrives on foot, by car, by motorbike but now the half angel-half elf creatures are loading the pine trees and packages to an aeroplane.

The card was posted in 1940.

Vintage Hungarian Christmas cards #17

Here is my today vintage Christmas card from the 1930'.

This girl looks quite sad and desperate in the snowy woods. No wonder she is like that. I would be too alone in the woods while the apples are dropping out from my basket.

Tomorrow I try to bring a more cheerful postcard.

Vintage Hungarian Christmas cards #16

Although today I have already posted two different things, I'm here again with a vintage Christmas postcard.

On the card there are two children who are hiding behind an umbrella from the snowstorm.

The card dates from the 1920'.

Vintage Hungarian Christmas cards #15

Here is the 15th vintage Christmas postcard from the 1940'.

Two children are peeping through the green shutters of a house. Is it their house or is it the neighbour buddies' house? Whatever... but I'm sure that they can see something special, something beautiful!

Vintage Hungarian Christmas cards #13

It was a very busy day but I'm here with the 13th vintage Christmas postcard.

Two children are sledding in the snow with a pine tree.

This card was posted in 1938.

Tomorrow I come again!

Vintage Hungarian Christmas cards #12

I'm sorry yesterday I didn't bring here another vintage Christmas card. But here I am again with the 12th one.

On this card two children meet a woodland gnome. What do you think he wants to say to the children with his raised forefinger? "Don't walk alone in the forest!" or "Stop, and give me that pine tree!" Any other idea?

The postcard was posted in 1934.

Hopefully, tomorrow I come again!

Vintage Hungarian Christmas cards #10

Today is a big day! Saint Nicholas (Mikulás) arrives tonight to the Hungarian children! Traditionally he brings only little treats like biscuits, nuts, fruits, candies and little toys.

Well, on my 10th vintage postcard Mikulás has already arrived.

Mikulás wears traditional clothes: red robe, mitre and crook.

This postcard was posted in 1932.

Tomorrow I come again!

Vintage Hungarian Christmas cards #8

Here I am again! With a Santa postcard, of course!

This postcard dates from 1930'.

Some antique postcards are really funny! This is not the first card where the illustrator puts nice warm coat on Santa but lets the children walk in the snow in summer clothes!!! :-D

Tomorrow I come again!

Vintage Hungarian Christmas cards #7

For today I have brought you a very special card! This card dates from about 1900 because it was posted in 1901!

Santa wears a blue robe, there's no mitre or crook with him. He looks like and old grandpa.

This card is one of those early postcards that hasn't got divided back! This is why the sender wrote his message on the front page.

Tomorrow I come again!

P.S. Thank you very much for your lovely comments I received lately, this means a lot to me!

Vintage Hungarian Christmas cards #5

Here is the fifth piece of the series of Vintage Hungarian Christmas cards.

This postcard was printed in Italy. I would like to remark here that before the second world war most of the Hungarian postcards were printed either in Germany, or in Italy.

On this card the Santa is not wearing red robe but purple.

As this card was not posted I don't have no idea about it's exact date.

It's also interesting that although Saint Nicholas comes on December 6 in Hungary, this card is a Christmas card not a "Greeting from Saint Nicholas" card.

Tomorrow I come again!

Vintage Hungarian Christmas cards #4

Now let me show you the 4th piece of my collection of vintage Christmas postcards. This is a Santa greeting card.

In the picture you can see a traditionally dressed Saint Nicolas (Mikulás) with two children in the snow.

The postcard was printed in Germany and it dates from about 1930-40.

Tomorrow I come again!

Vintage Hungarian Christmas cards #3

My third Hungarian vintage postcard is also a Santa card. In Hungary the Santa arrives on December 6 and we call him: Mikulás.

So this card is a greeting from Saint Nicholas. Like on the first two cards the old man dressed traditionally: red robe, mitre, crook.

He visited two children in their home.

The postcard dates from about 1930-40.

Tomorrow I come again with another vintage postcard of my collection!

Vintage Hungarian Christmas cards #2

I am here again with my second vintage, Hungarian Christmas postcard.

On this card you can see the same Santa/Saint Nicolas like on the postcard yesterday. But here the scene is different.

In this case, Santa is at the staircase with a boy and a girl. He also wears a red robe, a mitre and he has a crook too.

The card dates from about 1930-40.

Tomorrow I come again!

Gift wrapping idea with printed Christmas postcard

You have to know about me that I’m a huge fan of vintage Christmas postcards - and New Years postcards and Easter postcards etc.

So every possible way I try to use them to decorate with. One year I framed the vintage postcards and those were the Christmas presents for my friends. This year I printed my postcards and I prepared decorated jars with them.

Right now, I have wrapped the gifts that I meant for one of my friends. For this, I used natural colour wrapping paper and printed Christmas postcard. Of course, I used cord and glue stick as well. It was really easy to do!

An antique postcard, a paper napkin and a French cheese box

Do you know the IHR (Ideal Home Range) Christmas paper napkin? You can see Santa/Father Christmas in red suit with children around him. The title of the napkin is: Victorian Father Christmas. Beautiful! The original picture was supposedly made by K. (Karl) Röger around 1895.

The IHR napkin: Victorian Father Christmas

Many years ago, I bought a pocket from this paper napkin and when I was in creative mood, I applied one of them on a French cheese box which just got empty.

My first decoupage box with this motive

My other hobby is collecting vintage Christmas postcards and when I was searching the internet, I was astonished to find a postcard with the same picture with the text “Joyeux Noël” on it. It was so miraculous that I bought it immediately. It has only one defect - someone has written the date 1909 on the picture with a marker (what a barbarism!) although the date was clearly visible on the cancellation of the stamp. For all that this is my most precious piece of my collection. In the corner of the postcard there is the monogram: K. R.
