So here is my last vintage Hungarian postcard with a Santa in a bluish purple coat with a lovely winter scene in the background.

My today vintage postcard is a black and white photo with a lovely girl who is praying next to a little Christmas tree in the drawing room.

This card is an early one because it was posted in 1904 and has an undivided back.

My today card is a sweet vintage postcard with a lovely child (actually I can't guess if he is a boy or a girl - but it isn't really important). But at least he is warmly dressed.

He is pulling his puppet on a sled in the snow.

I'm a little bit behind with posting the vintage Hungarian Christmas postcards. 

So today morning I have brought you a religious themed card with mother Mary and the little Jesus. 

Although there is text on the front it's not because it's an early postcard (until 1907) with undivided back.

This card was posted in 1943.

This one is a Saint Nicholas card! Not a Christmas card but a postcard for December 6th! Greetings from Saint Nicholas (Üdvözlet a Mikulástól).

It was posted in 1936.

Here is my today vintage Christmas card from the 1930'.

This girl looks quite sad and desperate in the snowy woods. No wonder she is like that. I would be too alone in the woods while the apples are dropping out from my basket.

Tomorrow I try to bring a more cheerful postcard.

Vintage Hungarian Christmas cards #3

My third Hungarian vintage postcard is also a Santa card. In Hungary the Santa arrives on December 6 and we call him: Mikulás.

So this card is a greeting from Saint Nicholas. Like on the first two cards the old man dressed traditionally: red robe, mitre, crook.

He visited two children in their home.

The postcard dates from about 1930-40.

Vintage Hungarian Christmas cards #1

I have been collecting the vintage Christmas postcards for nearly 20 years now. I have no idea how many pieces are in my collection. Each December I take them out, I admire them but after I carefully put them back to their metal box to avoid to get some damage.

Before the university I worked in a library, after the university I worked in the Archive of the Hungarian Radio so    I can say that cataloguing is quite familiar to me.

Well, I have decided that each day I will take a picture of a  Christmas-St. Nicolas/Santa postcard and I will show you here.

My first piece is a St. Nick card (Mikulás): Greetings from St.Nick 

On this card St. Nick dressed in a classical or a traditional outfit: red robe, mitre, crook. He gives some biscuits and maybe an apple to the children.

The card dates from about 1930-40.

Vintage Hungarian Santa postcards

Maybe this topic is a little bit out of date in January but I still would like to show you my vintage Hungarian St. Nick's cards.

First of all, I have to tell you that in Hungary Saint Nicolas/St. Nick/Santa Claus/Father Christmas comes during the night December 5th and the children find their presents in the morning of December 6th. The Hungarians call him: Mikulás. 

My Mikulás postcards are quite rare because in the past and in the present we rather send postcards for Christmas and the symbols of the Christmas are more the angels, the Christmas tree and the children than Mikulás.

I'm very proud of my little collection because of being rare and because it took me 10 years to get them.

These vintage postcards were printed in Germany.

You can see that our Mikulás figure how similar to the French St Nicolas image. 

The sign "Üdvözlet a Mikulástól" means Greetings from Saint Nicolas/St Nicholas.
